Hi I’m Scout! I’m an adorable 1 year old, 12 lbs West highland terrier/Mini Schnauzer puppy. Yup, all this cuteness holds a high energy puppy who loves to play, run, and chase my ball or squeaky toys. I’ll bring toys back to you to throw – over and over and over again. I also like to take long leash walks around the neighborhood, especially when there aren’t a lot of people around. And after all the excitement of the day, I love couch snuggles while I nap.
I think I’m an easy puppy – I just need lots of cuddles, attention, and patience. And someone with a good ball throwing arm. Oh, and someone who is home more often than not – because I don’t do well when I’m left alone. But let me explain.
I came from a home that wasn’t very safe* – and this is where the love, patience, and training comes in. I scare easily, and can be protective on walks when other people or dogs come to close. It takes me some time to get used to new people and new furry friends – actually, I’d rather be your one and only – I have lots of love to give. I need a quiet home with one or two patient and active adults. I’d also be okay with kids 12+ if they like couch cuddles and playing ball.
I’m not quite potty trained but getting better every day, especially if you let me out often. So please make sure you can commit to my puppy needs and not leave me alone for long periods of time. If that’s not possible, please consider an adult dogs which might be better suited for your lifestyle!
I need a single family home with a secure fenced in yard so I can have a place to run and burn some of this puppy energy off.
Also, I love exploring in nature and will bring nature back in my gorgeous fur. I need a lot of careful grooming to keep my gorgeous fur looking great.
*Scout was surrendered as he was not in a safe environment. He was in a home that had too much loud energy and activity – the active and very vocal adults, kids, and larger dog got to be too much. This caused Scout some confusion. As his communications become growly, he also developed some resource guarding. With some patience and training, this can be corrected. He’s a work in progress. He is also FEARFUL of men and new people, especially in his home. He takes a little bit to trust. His new home will need to have a confident human to teach him and guide him on all things trusting and how to be the BESTEST boy. And to build his confidence. Prefer a home without men.

Adoption Requirements: You must be a Florida resident, and be at least 25 years of age to adopt. To qualify for adoption, all of the pets in your home must be spayed or neutered, be current on all vaccines, preventatives, and have received consistent veterinary care. If you’ve had more than one Vet in the past 3 years, please provide all the names and number for each vet. This breed typically lives 15-18 years, so please keep that lifespan in mind, as your age should be appropriate for the pets estimated lifespan.
