Meet Samoset! Rescued near Thanksgiving, he is named after the first Native American to make contact with the pilgrims. He is believed to be a 3 year old Petitie Basset Griffon Vendeen, an ancient breed of hound from France. He weighs approximately 30 pounds and has a beautiful soft coat that, with regular brushing, sheds very little. Sammy has been neutered, micro-chipped, is heartworm negative and current on all shots.
Sammy is a shy guy that does not make a good first impression. In new situations, he will hide in a corner and try to disappear. But once he gets to know you he’s a big ol’ teddy bear! He needs an experienced dog owner to help him build confidence. He gets along with most dogs, but does need to learn manners. He does not like sharing, and can be too pushy with other dogs. Considering he was abandoned in a WalMart parking lot, he has come a long way. With love and a little patience, Sammy can be a wonderful addition to your family.
