Cuteness Alert!

We’d like to introduce you to Bailey. He’s a 10 year young Yorkie gentleman, weighing in at a whopping 6 lbs! He and his friend Lola (a pug, see separate post) were taken by Animal Control from a home after their human passed away, and VIP Rescue stepped up to take them both into our rescue.

We originally placed them both with the same foster, and they really didn’t appear to be bonded, so we tried them with separate foster homes and they are both doing great apart! Of course, if someone is interested, they can be placed in a home together.

Bailey was very timid at first to walk on the leash, he would start out and get to the end of the front yard and then put the brakes on and you try to move a 6lb stubborn pup, LOL. The foster mom had a back up plan and scooped him up and put him in a sling for a ride along. After a few more attempts to get him to walk, each time he would go a little farther, then he got the hang of it and was eager to walk more, and now after a few weeks he is the leader, out front showing the way, for the sunrise pack walk. He loves these sniffy sunrise walks and hopes his “fur”ever humans will keep these walks up. He also loves to sun himself in the fenced back yard. Although a fenced yard is not required, he would love to have a secured area to enjoy the outdoor smells, with a shady spot to hang out in the fresh air. We would like to keep him active and out for his exercise walks, buts he’s also happy to ride along in a sling and go everywhere with you or will even tolerate (hahaha) a stroller if your are going out and it is too hot for his paws on the ground.

Bailey loves to snuggle up on a lap or a soft doggy bed for his afternoon snoozes or if his human is reading a book or watching TV, Bailey will step on, walk over and sometime sit on another pup to get to foster moms lap. He has learned this is a treasured place and you need to get there quick to get the best part of the humans lap.

Bailey will sleep in a doggy bed at night or if you allow it, he will sleep in the human bed. He sleeps up by the foster mom’s pillow in a donut bed so he does not get squished by the other pups that join in for bedtime. He is learning what toys are and knows what food is. He will need to continue with medicated baths for a while as he came in with some hair loss, no worries though, as he has already received many and his hair is growing back nicely. He will need regular grooming, please keep this expense in mind if you are considering adopting him, usually grooming expenses can be $60-100 every 6-8 weeks.

He could be your one and only dog, or if you have another dog, they will need to meet, as he does well with the other dogs in the foster home and he loves to greet all sizes and ages of dogs on our morning walks, he even flirts with a 60 lb doodle mix! A mild mannered, small, respectful dog would be considered in an existing home, but remember he is so tiny and we don’t want him to get stepped on or squished with an over active, high energy dog. As for kids, to our knowledge, he has not been around them, ages 13+ who will be respectful of his space and patient with him would be considered.

Bailey is neutered, has had a fresh dental, (16 teeth extracted) but no worries, he has enough left to gobble up his senior kibble at meal time. He is also microchipped, current on all vaccines and is on heartworm and flea prevention.

If you think this tiny guy might be for you, please visit www.viprescue.org to fill out an adoption application.

Adoption Requirements: You must be a Florida resident, and be at least 25 years of age to adopt. To qualify for adoption, all of the pets in your home must be spayed or neutered, be current on all vaccines, preventatives, and have received consistent veterinary care. If you’ve had more than one Vet in the past 3 years, please provide all the names and number for each vet. This breed typically lives 15-18 years, so please keep that lifespan in mind, as your age should be appropriate for the pets estimated lifespan.

All of us at VIP Rescue are Volunteers, with families, jobs and pets of our own, so please be kind and patient. We select the most fitting application for the dog, not necessarily the timeliest adoption application. Please make sure to read the entire bio on the pet you’re interested in before applying to adopt to make sure you meet the pets needs. Thank you for thinking rescue.
